On December 1, 2022, ARIJ in collaboration with FPU held its first safety hackathon, as one of ARIJ22 pre-forum workshops, with the certified safety expert Abdullah Maksour as a coach, 3 fellows from Right to Safety Fellowship, and 5 student; winners of ARIJ universities competition for designing safety campaigns. In addition to an academic and a veteran investigative reporter.
The purpose of the hackathon was to improve ARIJ safety model (risk assessment) adopted by ARIJ in recent years, and an essential part of its safety model for investigative work. The hackathon was an opportunity to evaluate ARIJ risk assessment models through the eyes of participants coming from different backgrounds and experiences.
As the hackathon concluded, the participants were able to do their own risk assessments and were encouraged to suggest ideas to improve ARIJ’s model by practicing the model and providing their feedback.
