Project Overview

The SHARAKA project aims to promote climate justice in Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, and Palestine.


Implementing Partners

This project is a collaborative effort involving Hivos, Internews, the Arab Reform Initiative (ARI), and Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ).

Project Objectives (within ARIJ’s scope)

Empowerment and Collaboration

  • Strengthen the capacity of journalists to collaborate and influence climate policies and reforms through investigative reporting.
  • Create a platform connecting climate journalists from Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, and Palestine to facilitate coordination and the development of impactful climate stories.

Capacity Building and Information Dissemination

  • Climate Journalism Guide: Develop an Arabic-language guide for climate journalism, providing journalists with the tools and knowledge to report on climate issues effectively.
  • Video Tutorials and Webinars: Produce short video tutorials and expert-led webinars to enhance journalists' skills in climate reporting and journalism.
  • Investigative Fellowships: Launch a 6-month fellowship for 30 journalists, offering mentorship and support to produce in-depth investigative reports on climate issues.


Through its comprehensive approach, the SHARAKA project aims to create a sustainable impact by empowering local actors, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the dissemination of credible information to drive inclusive climate action in the MENA region.
